Specializing in helping patients become as healthy as possible.
Thanks for visiting my website. I’m Dr. Keith Currie. My path in life is an unconventional one. My first life memory is when I was 6 months old in the hospital. I was in a tent. A sterile environment where doctors would reach in and handle me. According to my Mom, I was very sick and almost died. She was amazed when I told her that I remember this.
I didn’t start out life with the intention of becoming a doctor. I was actually a child prodigy on the trombone. I know it sounds funny but it is what it is. So, I did what seemed would be natural and first attended college on a full music scholarship in 1989. I wanted something different out of life and entered the United States Air Force. There. I completed a successful 4-year tour of duty.
After military service, I enrolled in Northeastern State University in Tahlequah, Oklahoma and it was during that time that I became interested in natural healthcare. As a premed student, I could see and understand how the body can heal and repair itself when the underlying causes of disease are identified.
After completing my chiropractic doctoral studies, I continued my education and research. I have attended over 800 hours of post-doctorate classes in natural healthcare. I’ve also spent countless hours reading and researching. My 18-plus year career has focused on helping people regain their lost quality of life and get healthier through natural methods.
The body can heal and repair itself. As a “Doctor of Cause”, I do the appropriate testing to formulate my diagnostic workup for a patient. Once the testing is received, I analyze and interpret the tests and create customized and individualized treatment plans for my patients. I also enjoy spending quality time with my patients and work to educate them on why their body is sick and what the game plan is to lead them to recovery.
No matter what part of the world we are from, we all live in a toxic environment. More than ever, we’re exposed to many chemicals and pollutants. Toxins are in our diet, pillows, water, fuel, air, laundry detergent, etc.
There are many toxic and harmful elements. Everything you touch, taste, and breathe has toxins. Your liver attempts to detoxify this harm from your body.
Toxins cause body stressors creating damage to delicate structures and systems. This leads to disease. There is also “life stress”. The load of these combined “stressors” break down the immune system. They affect the brain and nervous system. They change digestion, They alter hormone production (and use) by the body.
All (100%) of body disease processes are from inflammation in some form. Chronic inflammation leads to localized poor health. “Thyroiditis” is inflammation of the thyroid gland. Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis is autoimmune destruction of the thyroid gland. Type 2 diabetes is severe insulin resistance/estrogen dominance and causes inflammation of the insulin receptors, cardiovascular system and the central nervous system. Type 2 Diabetes literally causes “systemic vasculitis” a.k.a. inflammation of the blood vessels throughout the body.
An infection can irritate, damage, or destroy body tissues. This causes inflammation and disease over time.
The only way to be successful in regaining health is to identify what caused your poor health to begin with. I work to find the cause of my patients poor health and then build a strategy for them to become as healthy again as quickly as possible (without medications or drugs). Another focus is to work towards prevention of future disease, illness and lost quality of life.
The primary focus of my practice is Type 2 Diabetes, Hypothyroidism (Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis), and Prevention of Cognitive Decline. I examine any case no matter what the condition. Conditions I see most in my functional medicine practice are:
Type 2 Diabetes
Hypothyroidism (including autoimmune hypothyroidism “Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis”)
Improving and Preserving Cognitive (Brain) Function
